Nomenclature Guide

OPC — Official Product Code

Example

MAG-DRV00002-NP

DRV — Product Type

3 capital letters (BUS, POS, IMG, DRV)

0 — Product Category

0=IC · 1=Module · 3=COTS · 4=IP · 5=SW

000 — Flavor

Product-specific flavor (3 digits)

2 — Version

Product version number

N — Industry

N=Nuclear · S=Space · M=Military · C=Consumer · A=Auto · H=Health · I=Industrial

P — Package Type

B=Bare die · C=Ceramic · P=Plastic · M=Metal · S=SIP

Wafer Nomenclature

Example

WFR-AIA_AA_M1_WA

WFR — Prefix

Fixed prefix — identifies the asset as a Wafer

AIA — Product Type

Always 3 capital letters (e.g. BUS, POS, IMG, DRV)

AA — Die Revision

Always 2 capital letters (e.g. AA, BA, CB)

M1 — Manufacturing Round

"M" + number: M1 = 1st round, M2 = 2nd round, etc.

WA — Wafer ID

"W" + always 1 capital letter: A = 1st wafer, B = 2nd, C = 3rd, …

Packaged Die Nomenclature

Example

MAG-DRV00002-NP_BA_E211G2DC_S214

MAG-DRV00002-NP — OPC

Official Product Code — the commercial name under which the product is sold (see OPC breakdown above)

BA — Die Revision

Always 2 capital letters — same die revision as used on the wafer (e.g. AA, BA, CB)

S214 — Serial Number

"S" followed by a unique number identifying this individual packaged die within its batch

Batch ID breakdown: E211G2DC — encodes the full production context

E — Product Stage

E = Engineering · Q = Qualification · P = Production

21 — Production Year

2-digit year (21 = 2021, 22 = 2022, …)

1 — Lot Number

Identifies the specific manufacturing lot

G — Wafer Letter

A = 1st wafer, B = 2nd, … G = 7th wafer in the lot

2 — Packaging Round

Which packaging run this die belongs to

D — Qualification Target

Depends on Industry — Nuclear: A=empty, B=100kGy, C=500kGy, D=1MGy … Space: A=empty, B=1kGy, C=5kGy, D=10kGy …

C — Package Variant

Depends on Package Type — Ceramic: A=J-LCC, B=SOIC, C=QFP … Plastic: A=DIL, B=QFP, C=QFN …

Bare PCB Nomenclature

— not individually serialised

Descriptive Name

BPCBBISTRO WP8 SLAVE Motor cardv2

IPN

BPCB-BISTRO_WP8_SLAVE_2B8_v2

BPCB — Prefix

Empty PCB (unpopulated)

PROJECT — Name

INFINIT, BISTRO, VISION …

WPx — Work Pkg

Optional (e.g. WP8)

TYPE — Function

EVK, SHIELD, MASTER, SLAVE, BASE, SUBSTRATE, SOCKET, MUX …

ID — Unique ID

System-assigned identifier

vX — Version

Altium version (v1, v2, v10)

Note: Empty PCBs are not tracked by individual serial numbers. They represent a PCB design as a physical unit.

IPN required: Each empty PCB must have a descriptive Name and a unique IPN (Internal Product Number).

Assembled PCB Nomenclature

— individually serialised & OPC assigned

Descriptive

APCBBISTRO WP8 SLAVE Motor card v2 A

IPN

APCB-BISTRO_WP8_SLAVE_2B8_v2_A

ID — Unique ID

System-assigned

vX — Version

v1, v2, v10

VARIANT — Assembly variant

A, B, C, ...

001 — Serial Number

001 up to ZZZ

Serialised: Every assembled PCB is individually tracked via serial number (long or short form).

OPC: Each assembled PCB requires an Official Product Code for sales & product identification.
